Accessibility statement
Last reviewed August 2026. Buying insurance is hard enough. Our site should not be the difficult part.
Found a barrier? Tell us and we will fix it. Email access@policysherpas.com or call (904) 555-0142. We acknowledge reports within 2 business days and aim to remediate within 10. If a page blocks you, an advisor will complete the same process with you by phone at no disadvantage.
Our conformance target
PolicySherpas is designed and tested to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We assess conformance by manual keyboard and screen reader testing on every template plus automated checks in our build process. We consider the site substantially conformant, and we treat any gap as a defect rather than an acceptable exception.
What that means in practice
- Keyboard operable throughout. Every control, including the mega-menu, mobile drawer, FAQ accordions, glossary filters and all quote steps, works without a mouse. A visible focus ring is never suppressed.
- Quote forms designed for assistive tech. Each step is a properly labelled radio or checkbox group with a legend, not a set of clickable divs. Press 1 through 9 to choose an option, Enter to continue, Backspace to go back.
- Progress announced politely. Step changes and validation errors are announced through a live region, so a screen reader user is never left guessing where they are.
- Contrast that passes. Body text meets or exceeds a 4.5:1 contrast ratio and large text 3:1, in both light and dark themes. Interactive borders meet 3:1.
- Never colour alone. Selected answers, errors and required fields are marked with text, icon and shape as well as colour.
- Touch targets at least 44 by 44 pixels. Including the answer boxes in every form step, which is why they are boxes and not radio dots.
- Motion respects your settings. Reveal animations, count-ups and transitions are disabled when your system requests reduced motion.
- Semantic structure. One h1 per page, headings in order, real landmarks, a skip-to-content link, and tables with proper scoped headers.
- Zoom and reflow. Usable at 400% zoom and at a 320 pixel viewport width with no horizontal scrolling or content loss.
- No time limits. Nothing on the site expires while you read or complete it.
Why our forms are built the way they are
The one-or-two-questions-per-step design with large tappable boxes is an accessibility decision as much as a usability one. It removes typing wherever a finite set of answers exists, keeps each screen within a single cognitive chunk, avoids native dropdown menus that behave inconsistently with assistive technology on mobile, and gives every answer a target far larger than the 44 pixel minimum. Free-text entry is reserved for the handful of fields where only you know the value: your name, email, phone and ZIP code.
How we test
| Method | Tools | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard-only walkthrough | Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, Escape, arrow keys | Every template, every release |
| Screen reader testing | VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, NVDA with Firefox on Windows | Quote funnels and core templates each release |
| Automated audit | axe-core and Lighthouse accessibility checks | Every build |
| Contrast verification | Programmatic contrast checks of every token pair | Whenever the palette changes |
| Zoom and reflow | 400% zoom, 320px viewport, 200% text-only resize | Every release |
Known limitations
We would rather name these than pretend they do not exist:
- Carrier applications and portals. Once you move to an insurer's own e-application or member portal, that experience is controlled by the carrier and its accessibility varies. If you hit a barrier there, tell us — we will complete the application with you by phone and we raise the issue with the carrier.
- Complex comparison tables. Wide tables scroll horizontally within their own container on small screens. They are marked up with proper row and column headers, but we are continuing to improve the small-screen experience.
- Third-party documents. Some carrier PDFs, such as Summary of Benefits documents, are not fully tagged. We will provide the same information in an accessible format on request.
Alternative ways to get the same help
Anything the website does, a person can do with you. Call (904) 555-0142 weekdays 8am to 7pm Eastern and a licensed advisor will take your information, explain your options and read documents aloud. We accept relay calls, will correspond entirely in writing if you prefer, and will provide any document in large print or plain text at no cost. Using an alternative channel never changes your pricing or your options.
Formal complaints
If our response does not resolve your concern, you may contact the U.S. Department of Justice ADA Information Line at 1-800-514-0301 (TTY 1-833-610-1264), or your state department of insurance. We would much prefer to fix the problem first — email access@policysherpas.com.
